An interpreter on La Pérouse's round-the-world expedition, Jean-Baptiste-Barthélemy de Lesseps (1766–1834) was disembarked on the eastern coast of the Kamchatka peninsula in 1787 and trusted with bringing expedition reports overland to France. This two-volume work, published in 1790 and translated from French, gives a compelling account of his journey.
