Par grāmatu
"The King's Private Army" by Andrew Stewart delves into a little-known chapter of history during the tumultuous years of World War II. Published in 2016 and spanning 136 pages, this intriguing book uncovers the British government’s secret establishment of an elite bodyguard tasked with protecting the Royal Family amidst fears of a German invasion following France's surrender in June 1940.
Led by Major Jimmy Coats, a renowned Coldstream Guards officer and winter sports champion, this covert operation was initially dubbed 'The Coats Mission'. While its title may seem innocuous, the mission's significance was paramount; it was designed to ensure the safe evacuation of King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, and their daughters, Princess Margaret and Princess Elizabeth, should the need arise. Stewart's insightful narrative illuminates the challenges and strategies employed in safeguarding the monarchy during one of Britain’s most perilous times.
