The Roles We Play

Discover the compelling narrative of "Roles We Play," a debut graphic memoir by Sabba Khan, published in 2021. This evocative work spans 272 pages and delves into the rich tapestry of identity, belonging, and memory within the British Pakistani diaspora. Two-thirds of this community trace their roots back to Mirpur in Azad Kashmir, a region profoundly affected by displacement due to the construction of a dam following Partition.

Through her unique perspective as a second-generation Azad Kashmiri migrant in East London, Khan vividly illustrates the complexities of contemporary British Asian life. Her artwork and storytelling invite readers to reflect on their own experiences of heritage and the roles we all play in shaping our identities. "Roles We Play" is not just a memoir; it is a heartfelt exploration of the past, present, and future of a community intertwined with history.
